This will be an extremely short blog as (a) I know nothing about glazing as yet (b) I am not massively interested in glazing and (c) I am not sure HOW I glazed these pots. However, this week I have managed to fire the kiln to do a glaze firing…and it’s worked! Well..ish. I think the temperature was on too long and I also only realised after setting my kiln and having it on for an hour why it wasn’t working properly…because my controller doesn’t have set programmes. It has to be set every time. BUT…the main thing is that I did it – and they actually look quite nice!
I have to be honest, I don’t know if I will ever be someone who mixes glazes and things like that. I LOVE looking at pretty pots on Instagram, but the chemistry behind glazing gets my brain in a complete twist. So, I just used a shop bought glaze (this one is Scarva Chrysanthos CG011 Lagoon Blue Crackle) and me and the boys painted our little hearts out. I have to say, I think my youngest’s candle holder has turned out best of the lot – he made it for his teacher, so I hope she likes it!
Once I am more au fait with the kiln and controller I will put some more information on, but for now, it’s just a celebration that nothing blew up or melted :o)
